The hub of ancient architecture

Tipperary seems to have been at one time a county that was the hub of ancient architecture.  It is now littered with castles and ancient buildings.  Visit the medieval and celtic collection of ruins at the Rock of Cashel which have sweeping pastoral views or check out Cahir Castle which is an imposing 12th-century fortress sitting on an island in the River Suir.  Cahir Castle has been used an iconic filming location from as far back as Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 drama Barry Lyndon and John Boorman’s Excalibur, to more recent epics like David Lowery’s The Green Knight and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel.

Rock of Cashel

Also known as Cashel of the Kings. According to local legends, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil’s Bit, a mountain 30 km north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock’s landing in Cashel.
