A Haven of heritage, Tipperary boosts some of Ireland’s most famous historical monuments and castles.  You can take a trip of our walled towns or immerse yourself in the mythology and history of our glens and vales. Our walking trails will leave you breathless.

Thurles

Thurles town is located in mid-County Tipperary and is surrounded by the Silvermine Mountains to the northwest and the Slieveardagh Hills to the southeast. The town itself is built on a crossing of the River Suir which adds to the beauty of Thurles and it’s surrounding countryside. Thurles is a thriving commercial and business centre, a hub of activity and a great place to visit.

Home of Hurling

Thurles is known as the ‘Home of Hurling’ and is proud of it’s sporting heritage.  Thurles Town is the birthplace of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and in fact Thurles was the first town in Ireland to claim the the prestigious title of ‘European Town of Sport’ in 2012 when a delegation from the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES) (who formed a team to inspect our town’s top sports venues) witnessed the huge range of sports offered to the people of Thurles and stated that there truly is something for everyone to engage in and get active here in our town.
