Stay overnight at the 4* Anner Hotel when going to a match in Semple Stadium
Celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations in the world, the GAA is part of the Irish consciousness and plays an influential role in Irish society that extends far beyond the basic aim of promoting Gaelic games.
It was founded on November 1st 1884 at a meeting in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, by a group of spirited Irishmen who had the foresight to realise the importance of establishing a national organisation to make athletics more accessible to the masses and to revive and nurture traditional, indigenous sports and pastimes.
Semple Stadium, located in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland is the home of hurling and Gaelic football for Tipperary and the larger Munster area. It has, what is considered, the finest playing surface in the country and is the second largest stadium in Ireland with a capacity of 45,690. Semple Stadium was officially named as the GAA’s Number 2 stadium second only to Croke Park, Dublin. The Dimensions of Semple Stadium Pitch are 145 metres X 80 Metres.
